Funny Story. Seriously.

Dear Cabbages (and Kings),

Today's your lucky day! Boy, do I have a funny story for you.

During physical therapy, my therapist noticed that I double wrapped my ice pack with a pillowcase. He told me that I should make the layer thinner so my joint would benefit from the cold. "Well," I said, "If I don't double wrap it I'll get red and break out in hives."

Then he said something that sounded like a joke: Are you allergic to ice?

Pffffft - that's so dumb. Who would honestly be allergic to ice?
He continued: Have you had any cold weather injuries?
(The eff is a cold weather injury?) I sat and thought about it. I've spent the majority of my life in either tropical climates or semi-arid desert. No frostbite or anything.

OH WAIT A MINUTE. There was that one time I got hypothermia.
No, for reals. I was playing lacrosse in the sleet and freezing rain while wearing short shorts and a t-shirt. Don't roll your eyes, folks, I live in southern California and it was a surprise storm, okay?? After my dad picked me up from practice, I spent half an hour in the warm car, then went home and took my temperature. It was a cool 90.8 degrees Fahrenheit. As in, I should have been comatose, or something. Whatever - I took a hot shower and that solved the problem. My mom yelled at me a bit for not going to the E.R., but I'm here, right? I probably survived because my normal temperature hovers around 96 degrees anyway.

So it was that fateful day that my body decided it didn't like cold stuff. Now, any prolonged exposure to cold/ice/etc will make me turn red and break out in scaly hives. I AM ALLERGIC TO ICE.

What. The. Actual. F#@%?!?!?

Are you guys allergic to anything? I don't want to be alone here.

Summer Goals

Dear Doorknobs,

I've decided to make some goals for myself this summer, outside of my knee progress. Here's what I have so far:

1. Start reading the "One Piece" manga and catch up
2. Maintain my blog and expand each week
3. Organize all my filing paperwork
4. Clean out my stuff in the garage
5. Finish Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, and Fable III
6. Account for my spending between my bills and banking
7. Buy three quality suits and an office appropriate wardrobe
8. Get a good suitcase
9. Organize my stuff for my move to San Francisco
10. Put my photos into their album/scrapbooks

Sigh. It just looks like a lot of organizing/cleaning -___-
Maybe I should make myself do the hard stuff before the fun stuff.

What do you think? Can I do it? :)

Summertime :)

Helloooo Tiddlywinks!

It's officially summer today. I guess that's why it's 7pm and the sun's still shining brightly.

It was a beautiful day that I spent gleefully indoors playing Assassin's Creed. Yep, sounds about right. I also went to the dentist and my pearly whites are now pretty pearly and very white.

How did you usher in the new season?

I cheated :(

Hello Muffins,

This week has been really busy! I don't know if I've mentioned this, but the "normal" 12 people in my house has been extended to 17 as my uncle and his family came down for the week. We've been going around town, going to the beach, etc. etc. So I suppose that's my excuse for the sparse updates. And speaking of updates - sorry about the last picture. I tried updating from my phone and I guess I only got it half right.

New Knee News:
I've been cheating. I confess. I've been walking around on it without my crutches for short distances: going to the bathroom, throwing away trash, and shooting baskets at the gym. I'm not supposed to be full weight bearing for another three weeks or so! Anyway, it always felt alright as long as I had the Happy Meds, but my knee kind of hates me now. I think I'll be taking it easy for a while.

Hope you all enjoyed your fathers day! Did you do anything special?

Who digs chicks with scars??

Hello Plums,

Today's picture update comes from a beachside cottage. I'm staying here for a couple days :)

Notice that my new scar is actually longer than my old one. Not exactly what the doctor promised, but I guess it doesn't matter with scars as long as mine.

Photobucket

Hopefully I can keep it looking this nice, but last time my scar started splitting for no reason.

You like? Hahaha. Barf.

Celebrate!!

Dear Bluebellies,

There are three reasons to celebrate. Yes, three!!

1. The defeat of the Miami Heat tonight. Commence the feelings of schadenfreude.

2. Reaching 200 followers. I'm not sure why 200 people want to follow me, but I'm not going to complain :P

3. I reached full flexion today! YES! FULL RANGE OF MOTIONNNN. Thursday I was at 60 degrees, and now I'm at 130ish. This is the most spectacular news, and slightly distressing as well. My surgeon was very clear when he told me NOT to achieve full flexion in three days. Well I did it - albeit not on purpose.  I'm going in to my physical therapy tomorrow for an official measurement and perhaps a bit of chastising.  Maybe they can explain how I got full flexion without even trying.

Hope you all had a great weekend! Any stories? Did you watch the NBA finals?

Sad Day

Hey, Flapjacks!

Which facebook status sounds less desperate and depressing?

1. The one in which I complain about the party song playing because it reminds me of a) how much I can't dance with my gimpy leg and b) how much I miss college already and the parties and clubs that played that same song. Don't forget the hashtag to my raging cabin fever.

2. The one in which I casually ask if any of my friends are in town tomorrow night and want to come to my graduation party, because as of right now nobody is attending.

Hahah, sorry. Trick question.

The desperately depressing part is that I'm asking all my blogger friends to weigh in on this inane topic.

.........

Carry on, folks, nothing to see here. Emokid will sort this out and be in regular form tomorrow.

Hello Calling Cards,

Today I had a post-op followup with my surgeon. I was in bad shape when I visited last week - my knee was swollen, red, hot, and aggravated. The antibiotics helped it calm down a lot, and today it looked great. My range of motion is a little past ninety degrees, which my surgeon assures me is just fanstastic, though I would prefer to have a little more flexion at this point.  I'm getting antsy and I want to bend my leg!

The physician's assistant tidied up my incisions by scraping off the skin glue and snipping some suture ends. She used to work in plastic surgery and did an extraordinary job with my sutures in the operating room. I'm looking forward to a really nice 6.5" scar. You jelly?? :P

I've been given permission to bear 50% of my weight on my left leg, which is a huge relief and will surely be needed tonight when I go to my little brother's high school graduation.

Do you have graduations to attend for family/friends/yourself? It's a happy time of year :)

Bad Luck, Good Times

Hello Blossoms,

I'm in a great mood. I'm alone in bed, eating a piece of fried chicken with macaroni, burping aloud and giggling to myself. Attractive and mature, I know. I'm keeping myself occupied with a Russian spy novel, and it's fantastic so far. I haven't had time for pleasure reading in a long while, and it feels good to lose myself in the pages.

Earlier this week I took a trip to the doctor's, because I was worried about a spider bite that wouldn't stop growing and turning increasingly darker shades of purple. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with a brown recluse spider bite just two inches away from my nasty surgical incision. What luck. The good news is that I'm on antibiotics and my bite hasn't gotten much worse (yet). The bad news is that my left leg absolutely hates me.

Anyway, I'll be done with this book in the next day or so. Do you have any recommendations for me when I'm done? I've read most of the classics so some modern bestsellers would be much appreciated!

I'm Screwed

Dear Maniacs,

Knee is feeling better, I think. It's hard to tell because I take so many narcotics, else I suffer from stabbing pain. Tonight I've got a heat reaction going on, and my left knee feels like a little furnace. I think it's all the blood in there conducting the healing process.

I don't think I've shown you, but here is a picture of the screws they removed from my right knee. Cool, huh?

On an unrelated note, it turns out my bunny is actually a "he." I was wiping away some poo and I discovered some balls dropping. They weren't there before! Good thing Knuffles can be a boy's name too.

Today was hump day! My bunny definitely helped me get through it. What got you through your hump day?
